REX THEATRE

Every Friday night in the City of Galax, Virginia WBRF 98.1 FM sends out 100,000 watts of live old-time and bluegrass music from the stage of the historic Rex Theater into five states and over the World Wide Web.  Listeners may be in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee or as far away as Egypt enjoying the traditional music show from the comfort of their own homes, or they may be sitting back in one of the 475 seats at the Rex.  The show is called Blue Ridge Back Roads and thanks to a faithful group of volunteers, it has become the cornerstone for the revitalization of this 70 year old theater.

STRING BEAN coffee and tea room

Not just your average tasty cup of coffee or mediocre place to hear fine music! Stringbean is not just a place, it is an Amazing Experience! Located in God’s Country, amidst the Grayson Highlands in Galax Va, the World’s Capitol of Old-time Mountain Music. Come in, sit down, relax, absorb.

Galax was settled by many peoples represented by celtic countries and cultures. Scottish & Irish settlers brought their old tunes with them into these old hills, primarily by way of fiddle tunes. Music is not rare in this area. Bluegrass, Old-time, Country, Folk, or Accoustic are all represented in expert fashion.

Enjoy the tastiest cup of coffee you have ever imagined. You might even get in on a unique music jam. Now open The Shamrock Tea Room. Our next phase of remembering our roots and offering a UNIQUE experience. New phases are on the way…Join us for Tuesday night jam sessions.
